First of all, it is not about me, but of the incredible animals that I had the great fortune of knowing and working with. Over their careers, hundreds of criminals would fall victim to their incredible talents. With that said - My name is Emory Griffith. I was a K-9 handler for the City of Lawrenceville and Gwinnett County Police Departments located in Georgia.
I have been involved in German Shepherds since the 1980’s at which time I trained in AKC style obedience. In the late 80’s and early 90’s I developed an interest in a dog sport known as schutzhund. I quickly came to the realization that my American bred showlines did not have the temperament to perform in that style of training. In 1992 I purchased an East German female puppy and the following year a male who was a mix of West German working lines from a East German female. And so came my love for the working German Shepherd. I would later police with the male and would learn more about what a true working dog was from him, than any other source of information.
For over 30 years I have helped train many dogs and policed with them the majority of my career in law enforcement. It was the best job you can have as a police officer. Where else can you find a partner who never complains about the music you listen to, the food you eat, your driving, etc. The four-legged partner is always ready to work and happy to be with you no matter what the circumstances. During my time as a K-9 handler, I would police with seven different police dogs and with their help, track down hundreds of criminals for every imaginable crime.
For five years I taught learning theories to over 2000 college and university students. It was from this same knowledge that I was able to shape the behaviors of these incredible animals which would make our communities a safer place.
